the sunk-cost fallacy

Friend, one of the biggest reasons people hesitate to start over is called the sunk-cost fallacy.

This is the belief that, just because we’ve invested time or money into something, we have to keep going even when it’s no longer right for us.

For example:

  • reading a book you don't like, just because you've already bought it

  • continuing with with a career you don't enjoy

  • holding on to a toxic friend

Just because you’ve put time or effort into something doesn’t mean you have to keep going. That time is already gone—you can’t get it back.

So why keep moving in the wrong direction?

History is filled with people who started over when the world might have told them it was too late.

Colonel Sanders only found success with KFC in his 60s.

Stan Lee, the person behind Marvel, didn’t create his first hit comic until he was nearly 40.

Khalid ibn Al-Walid initially fought against the Muslims, but later became a legendary Muslim warrior.

Even the Prophet SAW himself didn’t begin his mission until he was 40.

Friend, no door is ever truly closed.

If something no longer feels right, you can choose to start fresh. No matter how much time has passed.

In Islam, there’s a strong emphasis on new beginnings. Allah doesn’t want us to be stuck in the past—He wants us to acknowledge our mistakes, apologize, and move forward.

Setbacks and failures aren’t the end. They’re just ways of pointing you toward something better. Instead of overthinking, ask for clarity, take the first step, and trust the timing.'

"Waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be. Be one."

- Marcus Aurelius

You don’t need a perfect moment to begin. Take that first step today. Start surrounding yourself with the right people, and move forward.

What's stopping you?
